Do your kids help you make dinner? Would they recognize a whisk if it was staring them in the face?
If you’re anything like me, you probably find it more of a hinderance than help to have your little ones assist with meal prep.
However, lately I have been feeling like I have been doing them more of a disservice by putting them in front of a screen so I can focus on whipping up dinner.
Cook Together, Reap the Rewards
In its ninth year, the Hands-on Cook-off contest was inspired by research that shows that when families cook and eat together, kids gain many valuable benefits, including:
- Better grades in school,
- Better physical and mental health
- Better overall social adaptability.
For those needing a little nudge (or cash incentive) to embrace the messy, glorious kitchen chaos, the contest launched April 16 and runs until May 16, 2018.
Total prizes up for grabs are valued at over $4,000!
How to Enter
This simple video contest is all about bringing together food and fun in the kitchen by having at least two generations or two youth demonstrate how to prepare a recipe. Breakfast, BBQ, pizza, salad, dinner, snacks…recipes in any category are acceptable.
Videos must include two or more people preparing a recipe together – and having fun while doing so is an essential element. Videos must be no longer than three minutes in length and can be entered online here.
For the first time this year, there’s an additional prize for submitting your accompanying recipe! People can enter their recipe with a photo online here for a chance to win $500!
Your Judges
This year’s panel of judges includes: Paul Natrall, who launched Vancouver’s first Indigenous Food Truck – Mr. Bannock, Ceri Marsh, cookbook author and the woman behind the Sweet Potato Chronicles, Michele Phillips of What Dreams May Become, Robin Kort, Founder of BC’s Swallow Tail Culinary Tours, and Joel Barohn, chef and registered dietitian.
