If you’re a theatre lover like myself, you probably have a bucket list of productions you’d like to see. The Phantom of the Opera has always been high on my musical roster, which was why I was so excited to score a media invite to last night’s opening at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera runs in Vancouver until July 23, delivering ample thrills, chills and goosebumps.
While it has been done by playhouses around the world, this particular production, which retains the beloved story and thrilling score, boasts exciting new special effects, scenic and lighting designs, staging and choreography and has been hailed by critics as “bigger and better than ever before.”
And trust me, they weren’t exaggerating.
From the legendary crystal chandelier that sparks and drops just a few feet over the heads of theatregoers, to the pyrotechnic effects and impressive vocals that give Mariah Carey a run for her money, we were all in for a real treat.
For this play, Jason and I decided to leave the girls with Nana and make it a date night. While we did spot a few kids in the audience, remember that The Phantom of the Opera could easily frighten some youngsters.
To be honest, I jumped in my seat a few times! With a thrilling score and songs like ‘Music of the Night’, ‘All I Ask of You’ and ‘Masquerade’, you’ll be whisked away to an eerie, sexy and ultra romantic feast of the senses.
You guys, this is the perfect excuse to get dolled up and spend a night in our beautiful city!
Even if musicals or opera aren’t your cup of tea, you’ll cry, you’ll laugh, you’re going to love it!
