Over the weekend we had a chance to stop by the Langley Events Centre Field House for Fraser Valley Family Day.
Molly and Zoe were bouncing off the walls at home — little did they know they’d get the chance to bounce and stick to the walls at this fun-filled event — quite literally!
I had no idea what to expect, but was blown away all the great entertainment for my wee ones. This event, presented by C & D Logistics featured loads of fun activities for kids of all ages, live music by Cannery Row, goodies and an appearance by pro athletes from the Vancouver Stealth and the BC Lions.
In addition to the bouncy castles and velcro wall, we were huge fans of the interactive exhibit by the Township of Langley Fire Department. Aside from being able to handle a fire hose, the girls were given a unique opportunity to dress up in fire fighter’s gear, carry mini flashlights and brave a smoke-filled room with the help of an actual firefighter.
I tagged along as they were guided through the room in search of a pretend body to save. Thick swirling smoke filled the air — you couldn’t see anything more than arm’s length ahead. The kids thought this was fantastic!!
“You know why we’re called fire fighters?,” a member of the TOL fire department asked Molly and Zoe.
“It’s because girls can be fire fighters too!”
While there was no admission fee, donations were accepted to raise funds for the Township of Langley Fire Department, the Life Ready Foundation and the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS).
It was amazing to see the community rally together to provide a top-notch event for families South of the Fraser River.
On his Facebook page Dana Matheson from C & D Logistics says the inaugural Fraser Valley Family Day was a big success.
“Thanks to everyone who stepped up to help make this happen, two months wasn’t a lot of time to pull this off, but we managed. We hope to see you all out again next year. What an amazing community we live in!”
It’s events like this one that continue to make me a proud Valley Mom. We’ll be back next year!
