Family puppet show The Rainbow Fish comes to Maple Ridge

International Publishing Phenomenon Comes to Life on Stage at The ACT Arts Centre

The Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia presents an original stage adaptation of Marcus Pfister’s colourful Rainbow Fish stories at The ACT Arts Centre on Saturday, September 28 at 3 p.m.

Winner of countless international publishing awards, the message of Marcus Pfister’s The Rainbow Fish series, about a beautiful fish who learned to share his most prized possession, has resonated with children, parents, teachers, librarians, and booksellers around the world.

Pfister’s story, which combines the author’s companion tales, Rainbow Fish Discovers the Deep Sea and Opposites, is sure to enchant even the youngest child as themes of opposites, friendship, responsible decision making, and relationship skills are examined.

The magic of the show comes from puppetry and black light. The fluorescent colours of the characters stand out from the black-clad performers under black light, creating an other-worldly appearance of floating, swimming and movements that creates a truly unique viewing experience.

The puppets are accompanied by a pre-recorded narration (Laura Benanti and Linda Wonneberger) as well as a custom musical score by Steven Naylor.

For tickets to this fun family event, call or visit The ACT Arts Centre’s Ticket Centre (11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, 604-476-2787) or go online to theactmapleridge.org/the-rainbow-fish. Tickets: Adult $20, Child $10, Family Pack $54 (available by phone or in-person only).

Audiences are invited to experience even more fishy fun at Family Fishy Fun, a free event featuring crafts & activities running from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on September 28 as part of the Culture Days weekend.
