Gift of Love Gala to Benefit Fraser Valley Families

If Valentine’s Day has you thinking outside the box for a fun and unique date night options close to home, you might want to consider purchasing tickets for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice’s 4th Annual Gift of Love Gala.

The romantic fete coming to Abbotsford centre on Feb. 17 promises to be an unforgettable evening of glitz and glamour, but it’s also an event with a big heart.

Here’s your chance to get all dolled up in black tie attire, enjoy a decadent three-course meal and bid on exclusive auction items. You’ll get to dance the night away in support of children living with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them.

Did you know that 44 per cent of the children and families Canuck Place serves reside here in the Fraser Valley?

With their Abbotsford location expanding services in 2018 by opening beds, this gala will help raise much-needed funds to bring these local families critical care, closer to home!

This elegant evening presented by MNP supports pediatric palliative care in the Fraser Valley and across BC.

The premier Fraser Valley event will be emceed by Breakfast Television’s Riaz Meghji and will feature:

  • Live and silent auctions.
  • Musical entertainment, including local artist and Canuck Place father Andrew Christopher.
  • Inspiring words from Canuck Place parents, and Abbotsford residents, Aaron and Kaiti Luyt.
  • Decadent three-course meal
  • An excuse to get all dolled up!

Gala Co-Chairs, Jennefer Vanderpol, Lisa Fershau, and Marcie Cyr are leading a passionate volunteer gala committee who have connected with the Fraser Valley to make this special event a true team effort. With the support of event partners such as Star 98.3, Country 107.1, and Breakfast Television, the evening promises to be a celebration of love and community.

“The funds raised at this event by our guests and community partners ensure we can continue to grow and provide complex clinical care to children with life-threatening illnesses and help meet the increasing need around the province,” said Canuck Place CEO Margaret McNeil.

For Aaron and Kaiti Luyt, surviving the first year with a complex child without Canuck Place confirms to us how essential this program is for families.

“Until you are a part of it you will never fully understand how grateful you would be for its existence,” said Kaiti, whose three-and-a-half year old daughter, Layla, has been recently diagnosed with Ponto Cerebellar Hypoplasia Type 2D.

“We have been part of Canuck Place for almost three years.”

The rare genetic condition affects the development on the brain, particularly in the cerebellum, which is the part of the brain responsible for basically all milestones — sitting, walking, talking etc.Canuck Place

“Canuck Place not only takes care of us in hospice, but has helped us get access to all the right services and specialists in the community. Having the access to call someone at Canuck Place any time of the day or night who knows your child’s baseline is incredibly helpful with a complex child.”

Tickets are 90 per cent sold out, but the public is invited to purchase tickets at www.canuckplacegiftoflove.ca before they’re gone.

All funds raised at the Gift of Love Gala will support the delivery of specialized pediatric palliative care for over 715 children and families facing life-threatening illnesses across British Columbia, with over 40 per cent residing in the Fraser Valley. Hope to see you there!
