Whether it’s outdoor adventure you crave like freshwater fishing, golf, hiking and river rafting, or a visit to a certain popular family waterpark, there is no shortage of things to do in Chilliwack, B.C.
In addition to Chilliwack’s popular tourist attractions that draws visitors from all over Metro Vancouver and beyond each summer, there are some hidden gems loved by locals that are certainly worth exploring.
Let’s take a look!
1- Dicken’s British Sweets & British Museum
Located at 45945 Alexander Ave, this iconic family run business is more than just a destination — it’s the ultimate British experience here in ‘the Valley.’
Upon stepping foot inside the 10,000 square-feet of retail space, one will find a plethora of authentic U.K. sweets, groceries, souvenirs, loose leaf teas, novelty gifts, a museum and tea room.
A visit to this Valley gem is like being transported to jolly ol’ England, minus the pricey airfare and cramped seats.
The Royal Hotel Chilliwack is more than just a place to sleep, it’s a gateway to the past and a place to celebrate the present.
Located in downtown Chilliwack at 45886 Wellington Avenue, the hotel stands on record as one of the Fraser Valley’s iconic gems that has been an integral part of the Chilliwack cityscape since it was built over 100 years ago.
For those looking for ultra modern and sleek accommodations with high-tech bells and whistles, this might not be the spot to hang your hat.
However, if you’re looking for a hotel steeped in romance and history – one that will transport you back in time to 1908, when horse carriages cantered down dirt roads and steamboats were the primary means of travel, make sure to put this local getaway on your staycation bucket list this summer.
Back in September of 2015, Jeff Bonner opened up this popular dining destination next door to his audio/video production studio on Chilliwack Lake Road.
Today, this Valley Gem seamlessly blends the world of local eats with local music for an unforgettable dining experience that offers open mic nights and evening shows.
The menu includes everyone’s favourite breakfast items and a great selection of healthy wraps, salads and burgers.
4- Chipmunk Caves
First off, please keep in mind that the Chilliwack River Valley is a wilderness area, not a theme park. Only experienced mature hikers should attempt to explore the hidden Chipmunk Caves, which are squirreled away – cheesy pun intended!
To get there, park your vehicle at the yellow gate just off Chilliwack Lake Road and hike to the end of Chipmunk FSR. Note: if you cross over the foot bridge, you have gone too far.
The largest of Chipmunk caves is closed off for public access as a result of vandalism.
Whether it’s the affordability factor, to be closer to nature, or a combination of the two, more families than ever are leaving the big city to migrate further into ‘the Valley.’

June 15, 2017 at 11:48 amTo be honest, I’ve never heard of this city in BC. It definitely has captured a nature loving vibe, so I think it would be the perfect getaway during the summer months! The vista green housing units are beautiful both interior and exterior! The land that surrounds them is incredible. That cave also sounds extremely interesting, but I am definitely not experienced enough to go there haha.
