As usual, there’s lots of great stuff happening in our neck of the woods this weekend for families.
It can be tough to narrow down what to do and where to go, but we’ve managed to narrow down the search to five events that are happening right here in the Fraser Valley we think you’ll love.
In no particular order, here’s our Top-5 for the weekend of Sept. 30 to Oct.2, 2016.
The entire family will love making a scarecrow at the 2nd Annual Scarecrow Festival at Arts Nursery on 192 St. in Port Kells. This one-of-a-kind event features scarecrows unlike any you’ve seen before. Have you ever seen a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle scarecrow? Sponsored by local businesses, the gap lis to raise funds for charities right here in our community. Go on a scavenger hunt to find all 60+ creative scarecrows or make your own at the Build-a-Crow station. Just bring in some old clothes, and for a $10 donation, you can take your kooky character home with you. The month-long festival runs until Oct. 31. Drop-ins and group parties are welcome.

Head to Abbotsford for a fall-themed harvest social series. Come one. Come all. And bring the dog!
On September 30th, Abbotsford will be ripe for the picking. So to speak. Because this is precisely when the Fraser Valley’s most family friendly, adult friendly, and dare we say canine friendly outdoor event will be taking shape. From a pumpkin patch, to a KidsZone play area, to a beer tasting corn maze, to much and much more, Roadside will offer a bushel of attractions to suit every age and every taste.
When: The first four weekends in October starting Sept 30th. 11-6PM, Fri-Sun.
Where: Just off North Parallel Rd., East Abby.

4- 12th Annual Apple Day Celebration
Come join Derby Reach Brae Island Parks Association and Metro Vancouver Regional Parks for their fall celebration: Heritage Apple Day held in Derby Reach Regional Park on the first Saturday in October.
This annual event celebrates and spreads the knowledge of heritage apples and the role apples and orchards played in the early settlement of the Fort Langley area. You can see the remnants of the first settlers’ apple trees planted in 1890’s still standing within the park. Some features of the celebration are — entertainment, educational events, historic re-enactments, with pioneer chores for the kids to try — along with the many varieties heritage apples to taste — many of them not commonly grown in decades.
When: Saturday, Oct. 1, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Derby Reach Regional Park at the Heritage Area off Allard Crescent.
Put on your “wilderness” gear and invite friends and family members to join you or as a team in a 2k or 4k walk with us on Sunday, October 2nd in Campbell Valley Park (Submit with your Pledges onsite at 10:30 am)! Register Now!
Check out the additional exhibitors by several animal and environmental organizations and local artisans displaying products. There will be lots to see, view and purchase. Enjoy a delicious BBQ, prizes for the top fundraisers Individual and Group Fundraisers and have some fun with your K9-companion (welcome on leash).
