According to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, over 50% of young Canadian girls wish they were someone else.
As a mom of two young daughters, this is a startling statistic that hits a little to close to home.
I give them as much praise and compliments as possible, but that’s not always enough…
So, how do we moms and dads ensure our children grow up feeling strong and confident, even when we might not be 100 per cent comfortable in our own shoes?
Fellow valley mom Kristal Barrett-Stuart from Abbotsford has made it her personal mission to help girls 8+ to sparkle and shine.
She is the glittery mastermind behind The Sparkle Project BC –a movement that seeks to inspire and equip young girls to lead healthy, self-confident, and successful lives.
Born out of the country singer and entrepreneur Kristal Barrett-Stuart’s vision board workshop for girls, Sparkle is now a growing community of British Columbian entrepreneurs, artists, and public figures.
The members of this community dream of a world where girls have the self-love and self-confidence to clearly identify their goals, pursue their passions, and plan for their own success.
The women of Sparkle are pooling their collective wisdom to create inspirational and practical resources for young women. These resources include a book entitled Sparkle: An Inspirational Handbook for Young Girls, a Barrett-Stuart-penned song called ‘Sparkle’, Sparkle merchandise, workshops across British Columbia, and much more.
Partial proceeds from all Sparkle activities will fund bursaries for young girls who need financial assistance to pursue their dreams.
On Sunday, June 26,th The Sparkle Project is holding the 1st annual Sparkle Empowerment Event/Fundraiser for every generation of women 8+ at The Phoneix Ballroom, 33780 in Abbotsford from 1 to 4 p.m.
This fun empowering day will include:

Tara Teng– Miss World Canada 2012; Ashley Wiles- founder of Sole Girls ;Adera Angelucci from Passionpreneur TV ; Nicolle Hodges- Journalist and Kristal Barrett-Stuart- Founder of The Sparkle Project BC/Author/Country Singer.
The event will also include a silent auction, a variety of health and wellness vendors, The Sparkle Project BC pink carpet experience/media wall sponsored by Your Car Girl Ltd., professional photos with Quantum Image Photography, mini makeovers, a performance by Cambree Lovesy, an “I am” affirmation board activity (sponsored by Empowering Within Yoga), appetizers (sponsored by Angela Clayton with Homelife Reality) door prizes and more.
Partial proceeds will go towards sponsoring a beautiful young girl in the Miss Teen BC Pageant to help her learn leadership skills and to help her find her sparkle!
