Road trips aren’t always easy with young passengers, but one thing’s for sure — the right vehicle really helps to ensure smooth sailing on the open road.
We recently had the opportunity to test-drive the new 2016 Ford Edge Titanium for our family road trip to Parksville, British Columbia (see video below).
As Jason rolled up our driveway in our new ride, it was love at first sight. This was no minivan, nor was it your typical SUV.
The bold, sleek design of the 2016 Edge grabbed my attention, but what was waiting for us inside this crossover vehicle was what really blew us away.
“Mommy, there’s so much room in here,” said Molly, 6, kicking her little legs.
“It’s so pretty!” chimed Zoe, 4.
Inside, the overall impression is one of luxury and airiness.
Once I buckled both girls into their car seats, I sunk myself into the plush leather, heated passenger seat and tested out the legroom situation, which there was no shortage of. I could easily recline the seat all the way back and take a nap if I so desired.
But let’s be real, the girls were way too excited to let that happen.
Jason had already discovered all the high-tech bells and whistles on his way home from the dealership.
“Check this out,” he said, as he reversed into a parking spot without even having to turn his head.
“It shows you on this screen right here if you’re to close to a car, curb, etc.”
The standard Rear View Camera provides a video image on the centre console screen of the area behind your vehicle when in reverse. The screen has guides and a zoom feature that help you align your vehicle with a trailer when you want to tow.
Fortunately, it was a beautiful day so we had a chance to test out the gigantic sunroof overhead and feel the cool breeze through our hair as we headed for the BC Ferry Terminal.
“Turn on the radio mom,” demanded our backseat peanut gallery.
Lucky for them, there were no shortage of options with the Sirius radio feature. We managed to find a children’s station, which kept them content.
A major perk of this vehicle is that the navigation system is voice-activated. Should your attention and path wander, it will steer itself back into your lane. It will also pull into and out of parallel or perpendicular parking spots by itself.
And moms, you are going to love this. There is ample cargo room for you big Costco trip AND the trunk closes automatically.
Once you shut get inside and shut the door, it’s like being in your own little bubble. It’s so quiet, cozy and luxurious that we hated having to give it back.
