Enter to win a Valley Mom Makeover With Spa Utopia Langley

Let’s face it, looking pulled together and glamorous is tough work — especially if you’re a mom.

Aside from being stressful, it’s downright dangerous trying to maneuver a curling wand or apply liquid eyeliner with a preschooler tugging on your arm.

Remember your 20’s when getting dolled up was almost more fun than actually going out? Gawd, I sure do.

My girlfriends would come over, wine bottles would pop and cosmetics would be spilled all over the bathroom counter. We’d do each other’s makeup, laugh and get ready for a night out on the town. Back in my day… not really all that long ago.. we’d do ‘the Valley’ nightclub scene, which meant good ol’ Gabbys, The Mirage or China Beach.

Good times. *Sigh*

Fastforward to 2016, I’m older, wiser(ish) and wider, but still helpless in the hair and makeup department. So, when Spa Utopia Langley invited me in for a little Valley Mom Makeover, I jumped at the chance.

I’ve been to Spa Utopia Langley (the spa side) on several occasions throughout the years, but hadn’t ventured over to their salon  — well, that was until last week.

Stylist Lindsay Halley guided  me to her chair and unleashed my messy mom top-knot to see what she had to work with.

I told her I’d be going to see Dirty Dancing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre that evening, and was open to whatever style she thought would look best.

Lindsey suggested big sexy tousled waves, which sounded perfect to me. Before she began smoothing out my coarse, frizzy strands, I was sent over to the sink to have my hair washed and conditioned.

But this wasn’t your regular hair washing — no, this was more like one of Spa Utopia’s luxurious spa treatments.

As my neck was lowered onto warm towels and my legs lifted into incline position, I was given the most relaxing head and neck massage. I almost fell asleep in my seat.

After the wash and massage was finished, Lindsay went to work smoothing out my crazy hair with a brush and blowdryer. Afterwards, she completed the look with a curling wand so it would stay put for the entire evening and even last me for a few days. As you can see, she’s a miracle worker.

With my hair feeling all shiny and new, it was time to head over to the cosmetics counter to meet with talented makeup artist Shawn Durkee.

Shawn explained to me how he’d enhance my best features to create an alluring look of glamour for my night on the town using Spa Utopia’s signature cosmetic line — Jane Iredale . During the hands-on makeup lesson, Shawn advise me on colour selection, while providing lots of handy tips on how to recreate the look at home.

To complete the look, he added long full eyelashes.

Whenever I have my makeup done, I’m usually pretty nervous with how it’s going to turn out. However, there’s no need to worry when you’re sitting in Shawn’s chair. He truly is the Picasso of makeup artists.  I would trust him to apply my makeup for any big event.

A huge thank you to the team at Spa Utopia Langley for transforming this Valley mom from frazzled to fabulous for my night on the town. I will definitely be back!
