30 Questions to Get Your Child to Open Up About What’s Going on At School

Now that we’re a couple weeks into school and getting into the routine of things I find myself hearing the same answers to the famous question, “What did you do today?”
“NOTHING” is always the response but I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more going on in their day than they are telling me about!
So, it’s time to get creative and start asking different questions, and so far I’ve been successful in getting answers. Real answers. DIFFERENT answers!
Here are just 30 questions for school-aged children to get the conversation flowing.

      1.What made you laugh at school today?If you were the principal what rules would you change?

 

  1. If you were the teacher what would you teach the classroom?

 

  1. If you could take your class anywhere, where would you go?

 

  1. Who in your class makes you laugh?

 

  1. What game did you play on the playground?

 

  1. Did you see anything today that made you feel sad? Make someone else feel sad? What would you do if you saw a friend who was sad?

 

  1. If you could pick anything to add to your school lunch what would it be?

 

  1. What isn’t fair about school?

 

  1. What do you love about school?

 

  1. What would it be like if your school was outside for the whole day? (In the gym, music class, etx)

 

  1. What’s your favorite song to sing at school?

 

  1. What did you talk about at circle time today?

 

  1. What fun things are happening at school tomorrow.

 

  1. Tell me three things that happened today.

 

  1. If your teacher could have super powers, what powers do you think she’d like?

 

  1. If you could give your teacher a gift what would it be?

 

  1. What do you think your teacher does when she’s not at school?

 

  1. What types of games do your friends like to play?

 

  1. Tell me 2 things I don’t know!

 

  1. If you could invent something to make school more fun what would it be?

 

  1. Is school easy or hard?
