Win 2 Tickets to the Silver Screen Fall Gala

Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Judy Garland, oh my!

‘Old Hollywood’ will soon be strutting into town and Langley is getting ready to roll out the red carpet.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, a Silver Screen Fall Gala is coming to Cascades Casino and Convention Centre — an unforgettable fete that will include a buffet dinner,  live and silent auction, sizzling entertainment by renowned celebrity impersonator Tracey Bell  (see a sneak peek of what’s in store below) and much more.

In addition to being a costume party with a ‘come as they were’ theme, this blast to the past will benefit the Langley Care Foundation and the Langley Hospice Society in their first -ever joint gala.

Back in January, Shannon Todd Booth, the acting executive director from the Langley Hospice Society  graciously invited me to join the planning committee — and what an amazing experience and privilege it has been to be part of this fabulous board.

While this group ranges in age and back ground, every member has one thing in common– the desire to throw one heck of a party to raise much-needed funds for the Langley Lodge and Langley Hospice Society.

Here’s a bit of info on these two non-profit groups:

The Langley Lodge

Located in the heart of Langley City, this  accredited complex care services provider gives exemplary care for the aging population in our community.

Langley Hospice Society

The Langley Hospice Society is committed to providing emotional, practical and spiritual support for people who are living with a terminal illness, their family and friends throughout the last stages of illness, at the time of death and bereavement.

For those of you who love the idea of glitz, glamour and dressing up in costume — and why wouldn’t you? –this is an event not to be missed. And even if dressing up really isn’t your bag, you’re still bound to have a blast… all the way to the past that is. Who knows, you might find yourself rubbing elbows with a starlet or handsome Hollywood legend.

If you’re in need of a costume, make sure you head on over to Hallowville Manor in Langley City. This one-stop-costume shop has all kinds of fun goodies in store to rent or buy. The store’s owner, Tanya Nahal,  is donating all proceeds from costume rentals to the Langley Hospice and Langley Lodge.

To illustrate the ‘come as they were’ theme, the Silver Screen Fall Gala planning committee — myself included — recently  had a glamorous photo shoot over at Forever Yours Lingerie, complete with a champagne toast.

I always love visiting with FYL’s owners Brian and Sonya Perkins– they are such a generous and lovely couple who are always giving back to the community.

Us ladies glammed it up from head-to-toe is some fun glitzy garb, wigs and sky-high heels, while the gents looked dapper as ever in their suits.

I had way too much fun channelling the late Marilyn Monroe and discovered that it really is true what they say — blondes do have more fun! Well, Shannon also seemed to be having a great time as a ravishing red head, so maybe that’s not entirely true. A huge thanks to Brian and Sonya Perkins from Forever Yours Lingerie for taking the time to coordinate such a fabulous and fun photo shoot!!
