The McBurney Plaza Summer Series, presented by the City of Langley and Downtown Langley Business Association, kicked off on June 13th,with Build It in the Plaza.
Proving that Langley truly is the place to be, especially in the city, the event drew both locals and visitors of all ages to the downtown core.
Local gardening celebrity, Shelley Levis of Sow & Dipity (www.sowanddipity.com), provided live demonstrations for easy DIY projects centered around upcycling that will make you think twice about what you throw away.
A speaker, writer, garden decorator, theme designer and self described ‘Craftinista’, Levis is truly a Jill of all trades.
In between demonstrations, attendees had the opportunity to visit her inspiring DIY displays showcasing vertical gardening, backyard beautification and more.
Below (at left), Levis shows an alternative use for those plastic bag organizers from Ikea — a DIY strawberry planter. This is such a great idea, especially for those short on green space at home.
And for those wondering what to do with their empty wine bottles, the green thumb shows just how easy it is to whip up a beautiful bird feeder.
Make sure to visit www.sowanddipity.com to see how Levis whipped up this Tea Cup Tire.
Young ‘do-it-yourselfers’ were also invited to build a tool box or bird house on site with help from DonCol Nature Products or visit building sensory stations for hands-on fun.
Musician Andrew Christopher was on site with live performances throughout the day.
Build it in the Plaza was the first of the five events scheduled to take place this summer Saturdays in the McBurney Plaza. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for this Saturday, June 27 for Theatre In The Plaza! This festival will include family friendly performances by P.L.A.Y. (Professional Live Arts for Youth), face painting, a costume station, group acting lessons and more.
