With Spring Break almost here, the panic is beginning to set in for many parents.
“What should I do with my kids?” is a question many frantic Valley parents are asking. Yes, two weeks of no school is a long time — I figured it was high time I whipped up my annual Spring Break in the Fraser Valley roundup of things to do that will keep the youngsters from crying “I’m so bored!”
Or from you losing your mind. Been there.
After a little digging, I discovered that there’s so much bloomin’ fun happening here in the Fraser Valley for all ages. You’ll find it all and more in our Ultimate Guide to Spring Break in the Fraser Valley for 2020.
Drum roll please… Here are just 12 things to see and do.
What To Do for Two Weeks of Spring Break
1-Bring the Kids Back in Time
Show the kids how people lived in Surrey in the year 1900 by taking them to the Historic Stewart Farm at 13723 Crescent Road. This historic hotspot is open its regular hours during Spring Break with hands-on activities from 12 to 3pm Tuesday, March 17 to Thursday, March 19 and Tuesday, March 24 to Thursday, March 26.
2. Have Fun at the Fort
Lots of Spring Break fun is happening at the Fort Langley National Historic Site between March 16 and 27. Visit the chicks and bunnies, try barrel-making, watch the blacksmith work and try shaping your own piece of metal at the Jr. Blacksmith Shop. Once you’ve found your favourite job, go to the Big House and use a nib pen and ink to sign a contract to become an “indentured servant” of the Hudson’s Bay Company at Fort Langley.
Admission details : $7.90/adult; $6.60/senior. Free admission for youth 17 and under and annual pass holders.
3. Surrey’s Sweet Spot
The famous Honey Bee Centre in Surrey may just be the sweetest spot in ‘the Valley.’ The primary goal at Honeybee Centre is to bring the amazing world of the honeybee to the general public. This includes interactive displays, tours of the facility. There’s also honey tasting over at the Country Store – a great place to get candles, health products made from natural bee products and of course – honey.
4. Royal Good Time
From indoor and outdoor mini golf to stepping up to bat in the batting cages or playing one of their many arcade games, there’s plenty to do at Castle Fun Park in Abbotsford. Take the Trans-Canada Hwy. 1 and exit #95 at Whatcom Road.
5. Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!
6. Let’s all go to the drive-in – Open Weekends
The kiddies won’t have to get up early for school for two whole weeks, so why not head on over to the Twilight Drive-In? Your whole family will love eating popcorn in their pajamas while watching ‘stars’ under the stars. The drive-in is located at 260 Street and Fraser Highway. For movie listings and times, click here.
7. Discover Nature in the City
Celebrate the start of Spring by heading to the Surrey Nature Centre at 14225 Green Timbers Way. There will be a variety of fun family activities on site for all ages. View details. Nestled beside Green Timbers Urban Forest, the Surrey Nature Centre is a place for kids and adults to explore nature right here in Surrey.
8. Discover the Magestic North
Celebrate spring with a frosty party featuring dress up, polar crafts, cool games, outside play and more at Museum of Surrey. While you’re there, tour the amazing Arctic Voices exhibit!
The museum is open its regular hours during Spring Break with arctic activities taking place from 1 to 4pm Tuesday, March 17 to Friday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 24 to Friday, March 27.
9. All aboard!
Take the kiddies for a miniature train ride at Bear Creek Park. Afterwards, try your hand at a round of mini golf and check out the gorgeous spring flowers and foliage on the trail.
10. Search for Sasquatch
Nestled against Southwestern British Columbia’s magnificent mountains and the sandy beaches of Harrison Lake, Harrison Village is your local vacation destination filled with a rich history and natural wonders including the world-famous BC hot springs. Whether you seek an adventure with the kids, a romantic getaway or a fun-filled trip with friends, Harrison Hot Springs has what you are after this Spring Break. Check out our travel reviews of three amazing accommodation options in and around Harrison Hot Springs: RV Springs Resort,Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa, Rowena’s.
11. Remember the Newton Wave Pool?
I have so many great memories of visits to the Newton Wave Pool as a wee Valley gal. The facility recently reopened as the Newton Recreation Centre, but still has all the fun indoor slides and waves.
12. Back to the Beach
With the mercury starting to rise, and t-shirt weather on the very near horizon, head to White Rock beach for a brisk stroll along the promenade.
