Recent studies have shown that active children do better academically while also turning out to be active adults. Unfortunately, most children do not get enough exercise – in fact, only 12 per cent of Canadian children take part in physical activity. A sedentary childhood puts your child at a a higher risk of developing chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other cardiovascular illnesses.
Parents – this is scary stuff! But how do we ensure that our little ones meet the daily requirements of physical activity? With most parents working outside of the home and various other extra curricular commitments thrown into the mix, it can be hard to find the time. Trust me, I know!
It turns out that one of Langley’s best kept secrets has the perfect solution – the Langley Sportsplex Daycare.
While this program has been around for around 11 years, I had yet to check it out until recently.
Have you been inside the Sportsplex lately? In addition to the daycare, there’s fun to be had for the whole family, including four ice hockey rinks, Captian Kids, a fitness facility, equipment pro shop, cafe, hockey training centre and kinesiology centre.
During the tour, I discovered that the Sportsplex Daycare utilizes this one-of-a kind-facility to teach your child sports and to keep active. The daycare sports activities includes ice skating, ice hockey, soccer, baseball, bike riding, etc. Rain or shine, the staff provide your child with 90 minutes or more of physical activity.
For parents wanting to get your children into Hockey or figure skating, the Sports Plus program will give them a head start on the rest of the competition. Another added bonus of getting your child’s sports time completed during the day is that it allows you more leisure family time.
The Sportsplex Daycare system is an educational method designed to educate the whole child, not simply academically, but socially, emotionally and physically. Each aspect of the Sportsplex Daycare program provides knowledge and stimulation to your child’s brain in different ways. The enriched curriculum features a unique partnership of core subjects, such as Reading and Math, with fine arts, including Drama, providing children with the freedom to learn and grow through play.
The massive indoor Captain Kid’s Fun Centre for children ages 1 to 12 years old is especially popular with my two girls, offering so much space to climb and explore, our kids never get bored. It’s also an excellent choice for birthday parties and private parties.
And parents – if you’ve been feeling as stressed out and exhausted as I have this holiday season – and who isn’t?– I strongly recommend booking a massage with Jason Togeretz, a Registered Massage Therapist over at Three Peaks Health, which is located inside the Sportsplex. Jason’s goal is to bring your body in to balance by focusing on the body as a whole and not only the areas of pain. His preference is to use a combination of Deep Tissue Massage and Facial Release Massage techniques.
Anyone interested in registering their child(ren) in the Sportsplex Daycare program can click here for more information or call . Don’t delay as there is usually a wait list to get in. Note: anyone with a child registered in the program gets a complimentary birthday party package at Captain Kidz!
