I was just about to head out the door to attend Zoe’s preschool Christmas recital when I noticed a Facebook message on my She’s a Valley Mom fan page.
I should have just left it and headed for the school, but curiosity got the best of me — and to be honest, I don’t get many messages… maybe one or two a month from a fan who has a question they’d like me to pose to the rest of the readers.
Click- there it was. My jaw dropped to the floor.
(note, I removed her name to protect her identity. She also used the real curse words but I felt gross even just typing them).
Lady X – “This has been on my mind for awhile. You may have spoken on this topic before, if not, I missed it. Parent On Parent Rumours and Gossip.”
Me – Hello (Lady X), I don’t think I’ve talked about it before. Is there a question you’d like me to put out there for the readers?
Lady X – Just think you’re a f (rhymes with lucking) judgmental b (a female dog). Lost a reader C (See U Next Tuesday).
Me – I’m sorry (Lady X), did something offend you? I’m not quite sure what I said? Was it about the article I shared? If so, I’m not judging anyone. I’m just letting everyone know how I tend to not think of a gift until the day of. It’s very sad and unfortunate that you feel the need to speak to another mother that way and say such horrible, hurtful things. I sincerely hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas.
I hate to admit it, but this lady’s words cut deep. Yes, I know I put myself out there and risk hearing from Internet trolls like this lovely peach, but to spit out such vile hate to another human being is unsettling… even sickening. Just like Tina Fey said in the movie Mean Girls, “women can’t go around calling other women (S*^*&^ & Who*^*^s) — it just makes it okay for men to call us that.”
And as a mother, what kind of example are you setting for your young children?
I don’t know this woman’s deal — perhaps she was having a bad day, was truly offended by one of my posts or maybe even mistook me for someone else. What I do know lady is that you added a little darkness to my day, but not for long.
For the most part, I keep the Facebook page light and fluffy. There are lots of wonderful pages out there that offer controversial posts and statuses that truly make you think – honestly, I’d rather just make you laugh or keep you in the loop of what’s happening out this way.
However, I returned home to read all these beautiful comments from all of you lovely readers and each one of you brought tears to my eyes — you really did help restore my faith in blogging and humanity for that matter. Thank you to each and everyone of you — even you (Lady X).
Have you ever experienced hate online? I’d love to hear about it!

December 19, 2014 at 2:45 pmLovely. Been there. Some people’s children! Shake it off. You’re awesome and she’s someone who curses at someone behind a computer screen.

December 19, 2014 at 2:52 pmIt constantly amazes me that people feel it is acceptable to attack from the relative anonymity of a computer screen….sometimes engaging their friends in the attacks and ganging up on people.
It is no different to bullies in a school yard and the old adage ‘if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all’ seems to have vanished from modern society.
I was taught that.
I was also taught that what you send out into the world comes back to you threefold. For better or worse.
I have always believed people can say whatever they want, it doesn’t make it true, just means it’s been said. With the character assassination I have personally felt from people falsely believing their opinion is truth and spewing it over social media, I have always restrained from commenting publicly. I don’t feel it is necessary for me to give bullies a louder voice by engaging in their agenda. I prefer to focus on the positive and hope that comes back to me threefold. Stay strong, Kristyl. Let your haters be your motivators….If you weren’t making a difference, they wouldn’t be talking about you ;-).

December 21, 2014 at 4:46 pmThank you so much Jennifer! You’re so right on so many levels. I’ve seen the attacking too and the majority of the time it’s from adult *mature* women. I couldn’t imagine anyone ever attacking you – you’re such a bubbly, beautiful person inside and out.

December 19, 2014 at 8:26 pmYou are a blessing to all that know you! You are positive, joyful and one of the kindest woman I have ever met!!! With out you I would not know how rich in culture, history and down right FUN the Fraser Valley is. The way you have handled your self with this unspeakable act is both courageous and powerful. You are such a graceful and strong woman! xoxox
