Have you had a chance to visit the Museum of Surrey yet? My son and I love to visit and explore all the different galleries. There have been so many changes since it reopened a few years ago – and in that time, many exciting feature exhibits, events and programs for all ages.
Here is one of our most recent adventures when we visited Museum of Surrey in beautiful Cloverdale, located at 17710 56A Ave. BTW, I’ll be referring to my son as LM in my posts!
Museum of Surrey – Top Five Reasons to Visit
1 – Free admission! You might see from many of my posts, I am pretty dang cheap. Ha ha! Growing up in a refugee family, money was tight, so I love a good deal. Parking is free too.
2 – Local. Living in Langley, I love when I find cool things to do close to home. Packing up a kid for a trip to Vancouver, while doable, is way more work then staying close to home. No need to bring (too many) snacks and activities for a long car ride.
3 – Scavenger hunt and a prize. LM loved finding all the things on the scavenger hunt. We couldn’t find one of the things, so a very friendly staff member pointed us in the right direction (without giving away the exact location, so we could still totally take the credit for finding it). LM even got a prize when he went back to the reception desk with his completed sheet.
4 – Educational exhibits. Right now, there is a big feature exhibit on earthquakes, a topic LM is super interested in, a beautifully done exhibit on Semiahmoo First Nation by Semiahmoo First Nation, a fun exhibit on Surrey’s famous magician, Mandrake, and the permanent Surrey Stories Gallery. Phew! Lots to see and learn.
5 – Take-home craft – LM got a little brown paper bag with a neat craft that we did when we got home. Paired up with the fun craft kit we picked up at the Cloverdale Library, nicely situated right beside the museum, we had activities to keep us busy for the rest of the afternoon at home.
I know I said top-five, but I have to add one more… COVID safe! The staff kept the building nice and clean, and with masks mandatory during our visit, we felt totally safe. I saw people walking around cleaning while we were there, which was great. Hand sanitizer was available all throughout the museum, which is great when your kid touches everything they see.
