After the family equestrian event at Thunderbird Show Park on Friday, I high-tailed it home so I could swap my big floppy hat and sundress for a flapper ensemble.
Forever Yours Lingerie was hosting their 3rd annual fashion show over at Cascades Casino Resort. This year’s theme – ‘It’s Been a Roaring 20 Years,’ hence the glamorous getup.
Sidenote: My mom found this tastefully-tasselled frock at a garage sale in White Rock for just $3. Can you believe it? She told me that it didn’t exactly go with my leopard pumps, but I had to do me.
The 20’s theme was fitting since it was the store’s 20th birthday. I’ve always been a fan of FYL, and it’s not just because of their beautiful store in downtown Langley that has an impressive selection and amazing service (FYI Moms: they put on movies for your kids so you can shop in peace).
I LOVE the fact that this local independently owned boutique here in ‘the Valley’ is making a BIG difference one bra at a time with their charity, Supportive Start.
They collect new and gently used bras from their clients and work with suppliers to get new bras, panties and other necessary items (such as new toiletries and feminine hygiene products) in order to distribute them to in-need and at-risk women.
Many of us take for granted that we can get up in the morning and put on a clean bra and panties. However, there are a lot of women for whom that is not an option. Women whom have left a violent situation with nothing, are homeless, marginalized, living in poverty and simply don’t have the means to access the undergarments we need. These are the women FYL aims to help with their program.
Forever Yours Lingerie believes that every woman is and deserves to feel special!
This mantra goes beyond their charity – it’s something you notice the second you step into their store or attend any of their events, including the spring lingerie show.
“At Forever Yours Lingerie, we believe in the beauty and strength of every woman; tonight we will celebrate this ideal as we roll through the decade that was the 19sos and celebrate 20 years in business,” said Sonya Perkins, who owns the store with her husband Brian.
Sonya and Brian love to use models of all shapes, sizes and ages, which is empowering and inspiring to see.

All of the models donated their time for this event and brought out their A-game.
And speaking of the show, the props (all of which are handmade by friends and family of FYL), energy and upbeat music make it a very entertaining show from start to finish.
More highlights included Charlston dancing (featuring Benjamin Ricard) , a saucy burlesque performance from Eveden (known as a ‘Tall Glass of Bad Ass’) and cheeky carnival games. Bra pong was my personal favourite.
Ticket admission included true prohibition-style tastings of hooch from two B.C. craft providers, including ravens brewing company and Skaha vodka.
Thank you FYL for another memorable evening and continuing to put ‘the Valley’ on the map with your fun philanthropic lingerie fashion shows.
I can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for 2017 xo.
Okay, this Valley Mom is officially evented out for the next few weeks. If you need me, I’ll be in my PJ’s watching Neflix.
